What is required for me to purchase cannabis from a Colorado dispensary?

According to the state of Colorado, you need a valid government-issued ID, such as a passport or driver’s license, in order to enter a dispensary and purchase any cannabis products.

How many Colorado dispensaries can I visit in one day?

Technically, as many as you’d like! However, your adult-use cannabis purchases are limited to 1 ounce (28.35 grams) of cannabis at a time, including concentrates and edibles. To learn more about the purchase and possession limits for the state of Colorado, read our blog.

Can I travel with cannabis products I purchased?

No. Due to the federal status of cannabis, you may not cross state lines via any mode of transportation with cannabis products, even if you purchased them legally.

Since airports are governed by the federal government, you may not even bring cannabis into an airport. The best thing to do is keep or consume any product with THC in the state that it was purchased in.

Where can I consume cannabis?

You may consume cannabis products on private property with owner’s permission. This includes any residential home or backyard, 4/20-friendly rentals, and hospitality businesses that expressly allow consumption.

Public consumption is prohibited in the state of Colorado. This includes, but is not limited to, places of business, public areas such as parks, and more. Additionally, you cannot operate vehicles while under the influence of cannabis. Drivers can be arrested and cited for impaired driving if law enforcement observes and documents driver impairment to any degree, even with a blood level below 5 mg of Delta 9 THC.

What is the cannabis tax in Colorado?

Taxes on cannabis in Colorado dispensaries vary by municipality. The state gets 10% and each local municipality votes on additional taxes, which can range from 10-15%.

Roots Rx has several locations in Colorado, so you may notice that your total price varies from your local shop in one town to another. This is because the municipality you’re shopping in has applied more or less additional cannabis tax.
